Looking after your sunglasses
20th February 2018
Most sports sunglasses use polycarbonate as the lens material. This material is favoured by manufacturers because it has 20 times the impact resistance of glass and is 3 times lighter. The downside of polycarbonate is that it can easily scratch so it’s important to protect lenses when not in use. The easiest way to do this is keep the sunglass in a soft carry pouch (as supplied with almost every sunglass we sell). Most pouches are made from a microfibre material – before you take the sunglasses out of the pouch you can gently wipe the inside of pouch over the lenses to clean them. Best not to use the outside surface of the pouch as small particles of dirt on the outside of the pouch could scratch the lenses. It’s not a bad idea to have a few spare carry pouches around the house – they’re very inexpensive to buy and we sell them in our accessories section.
