Keep to the established sunglass brands – you only have one pair of eyes
9th January 2016
On holiday in some sunny resort or even closer to home we have all seen the street vendors and market stalls selling cheap sunglasses. Some will even (fraudulantly) have a CE Mark and UV400 label on them and we've all been tempted by their ultra low price. But it's not worth the risk. Whilst these cheap sunglasses with have tinted plastic lenses many will not have the correct UV filter on them which screens out harmful UVR. And that's where the problem comes in – wearing cheap sunglasses with no UV filters poses an even greater danger than wearing none at all because the pupils will dilate allowing more harmful rays into the eye. Don't take the risk! Stay clear of these cheap sunglasses and only buy established, reputable brands. It doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune either – many budget brands selling at under £20 (including our own Evolution range) provide 100% protection from UVR – the same level of protection as brands costing 5 or 10 times as much.
